1. Different chemical compositions
6061 has more alloying elements than 6063. The main alloying elements of 6063 aluminum alloy are magnesium and silicon.
2. Mechanical properties
6061 grade aluminum profiles perform better in strength and cutting performance than 6063, and both have good oxidation resistance.
However, in terms of plasticity, 6063 aluminum profile needs to be better, as it can achieve higher accuracy in the material; 6063 has higher tensile strength and yield strength, showing better fracture toughness.
3. Scope of use
6061 is a high-quality aluminum alloy material with high toughness, good weldability, and corrosion resistance. It can be used in heavy-duty vehicles, ships, aerospace devices, trucks, electric vehicles, molds, electronics, furniture, and corrosion-resistant structures;
6063 is an aluminum alloy material with strong comprehensive performance, which has high strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. It can be used for both building profiles and industrial profiles.
Commonly used in fields such as aluminum alloy doors and windows, curtain walls, various industrial frame structures, rail transit, aerospace, military equipment, automated conveying equipment, etc.
4. Heat treatment process
6061 no longer undergoes cold processing after solid melting heat treatment, but can undergo natural aging (T4 state) or direct artificial aging (T6 state). Its deformation coefficient is large, its hardness is high, and it is difficult to control;
After high-temperature forming, 6063 is then cooled, which is the quenching process. Generally, air cooling is used for cooling, and then it undergoes artificial aging treatment, which is the T5 state.
It can eliminate the internal stress of industrial aluminum profiles to a certain extent. Its deformation coefficient is small, its hardness is not so high, it is not easy to fracture, and its mechanical properties are stronger. However, 6063 also uses T6 treatment method, its deformation coefficient will also become larger, its hardness is higher, and it is more prone to fracture than T5.
